Price: Free
Features: Ubuntu has many great features. It is extremely customizable, as many linux distributions are. You are able to do virtually anything you can imagine doing, and almost always at no cost. The community is great! People are always eager to help you with any issue or question you might have with Ubuntu. I know I have already said this, but it is my favorite part, Ubuntu itself is free, and almost all of the software available for it is free as well. Ubuntu is extremely fast, and has great power managing capabilities. The desktop environment that Ubuntu has out of the box is Gnome and it is an amazing environment. Many modifications can be done to make Ubuntu meet your needs.Compatibility: Natively it will not run many of the mainstream applications that we all love. However, there is a great community that has developed free applications to replace them. In most cases the software is just as good as the paid for software, but not always. Wine is a great utility that will allow those who have the hardware to to run their favorite Windows applications in linux. It works quite well in most cases, and a lot of games and software work with it.
I recommend you give it a try if you have an old computer sitting around. In general, anything from the last ten years should run Ubuntu with ease, of course not as well as a new computer.
I will be posting more about my experiences with Ubuntu, and other operating systems as I get time.
