Sand Blasting Begins

I finally got the sand blaster working, you gotta have the right kind of sand. So far I have done the rear window area, around the trunk, the tail light area, the passenger door area, and part of the windshield area. I am sandblasting the not flat areas, and using a paint stripping wheel to get the flat areas since it is a little faster and easier. I was surprised to see how good th metal is behind the bondo and other body fillers. Some places will need a little work, but almost all of it looks perfect. The photos don't really do it justice, it really is beginning to look great.

Camaro Update

It has been a while since I have posted any news of the Camaro, but I have began working on it again since the weather is cooling off.

Since the last post, not all that much has happened:

  • the doors have been removed
  • all bolted on parts have been removed
  • the windows have been removed
  • overhang sheet metal from the floor pans has been cut away
  • the trunk pan has been cut out
  • the engine side of the firewall has been stripped to bare metal and treated with OSPHO
  • some of the floor pan has been treated with OSPHO
  • the inside of the trunk has been treated with OSPHO
  • and a whole bunch of cleaning and vacuuming

Six Months Later - Mounted on the AutoTwirler

We have the car mounted on the AutoTwirler. It was not really that hard to get it done, but everything had to come off of the body. Getting the axle out went smoothly, except for two bolts that wanted to be stubborn, but the grinder took care of those. We used jack stands on the unibody rails at the front shackle mounts to hold the body while we rolled the axle away. We left the tires and springs and brake lines all mounted on the axle. We then attached the AutoTwirler leaf spring shackle mounts to the body where the shackles mount. My car had ladders on it, so we removed those so the mount would be more stable. The old bushings were rotting away so we cut them away to allow the mounts to slide over, and we used the bolts that were holding the ladders on to attach the mounts.

Beginner 3 - Shutter Priority

The shutter priority is great if you know what shutter speed you need, and want the camera to do the rest of the technical work. As an example, I will often use the shutter priority when shooting football, because I know that I want to use 1/320 shutter speed to freeze the players.

Shutter speed is also a great setting to choose if you are photographing a waterfall or other flowing water and want that really smooth milky looking water effect. To do this you would want to use a lower shutter speed so that the camera catches the water flowing for a second or two. You could use longer shutter speeds to make the water look smoother and smoother. It would be almost necessary to use a tripod when doing this.

It could also be used to do the exact opposite, and freeze each droplet of water. Use a really fast shutter speed and get a lot of light by using a low f-stop.
